I love going to the DC/Baltimore area for weddings – which is a good thing, since I spend more time at weddings in the DC area than I do here in Winston! Last weekend with Jon & Catie was no exception. The wedding was held at the Woodend Sanctuary , and it wasn’t until I arrived there that I realized the web site does not do it justice! Designed by the architect which did the Jefferson Memorial, this gorgeous 30 acre retreat is a hidden gem right in middle of the city and minutes from the DC Mall (how is that for a travel guide sales pitch ;) (but totally heartfelt!). Well, hunger took over soon after, so I headed to the Hyatt in Bethesda where everyone was staying. Once I realized I was on Wisconsin Ave., I knew there was only one place for dinner – Moby Dick’s. YUM. For those who don’t know, Moby Dick’s is the best place on the East Coast for Persian kebabs. It’s a must.
Saturday morning was an early start with Catie, the bridesmaids, the moms, the grandmothers, the aunts – the whole lot – big laughs, big noise, and lots of memorable quotes. That’s what happens when you mix in friends and relatives who have strong roots from Pawleys Island in South Carolina (200 years strong roots – ‘dem some strong southern roots right there!) Salt Lake City, San Fransisco and a whole group of people showing the Queen’s love from England.
After some shots of the guys getting ready and having an early lunch, and finishing up with the girl’s hair and makeup, we headed over to Woodend for what was an awesome ceremony. You simply can not beat the trees and natural area they have for a ceremony. It really is amazing. The reception was great, and the fantastic MC skills of Mike Bell was really impressive. This was my first time with Mike and his DJ skills, and no doubt, if you’re anywhere near the DC area, call this man. He was on the ball, super cool, really nice and kept things moving at a perfect pace and spun the tunes like no one’s business. Check him out at mydeejay.com – you will not be disappointed.
The night went on with a great vibe – tons of dancing, lots of noise, and big smiles – just the way it should be! Congratulations to Jon & Catie and enjoy the samples!
