The weekend of October 23/24 saw two insanely intense/fun weddings starting with Kevin & Kelly’s wedding in Chapel Hill, NC. Right off the bat I was excited for Kelly and Kevin’s wedding for the past connections involved. It’s kinda like 6 degrees of Kelly: Kelly is connected to former bride Sarah; connected to former bridesmaid and current bridesmaid Kate; connected to former bride and high school friend Liza; connected to future bride & groom Claire & David – yeah, that’s pretty cool!
In the morning, Gel Salon did a great job on hair and makeup at Kelly’s parent’s home. We bonded, had some jokes and from there, I headed out to meet up with the guys at the Carrboro United Methodist Church. Oddly enough, the guys were ready, and early, and looking for good times – which we found across the street at the local coffee shop, which, ironically, served beer - good times :) After the liquid courage, the ceremony went perfectly and we headed to the Governor’s Club for the reception.
I should say that all throughout the day, ceremony, and now reception, Sally Oakley of An Elegant Affair did an amazing job keeping everything in check and running smooth. She has since left An Elegant Affair and is now running her own event planning business. You can check her out at Sally Oakley Personalized Wedding Planning.
After some fun photos on the golf course, we headed back up for cocktail hour and reception. At the cocktail hour, former bride Sarah and I were talking about the fun times at her wedding and specifically the amazing band she had. As we look over at the lead singer of Kelly’s band, we’re like “You know, he kinda looks like your singer, doesn’t he?” Turns out, coincidentally no less, it was the same band! We were stoked – we knew it was going to be a seriously fun night. And no doubt it was. Everyone was on the floor, groomsmen were dancing with the female singers, bridesmaids were singing, guests were dancing and laughing, and drinks were flowing – you couldn’t beat it. (If you’re looking for a great Motown style band, check these guys out. The Reality Show band can be found here.)
I should also mention James Ryan filmed the wedding and Chris Gentry of Palmetto City Photobooth ran the photo booth. Both were super easy to work with, a lot fun, and did a great job.
At the end of the night, last I head, the shuttle bus was headed to Top of the Hill on Franklin St. Who knows where it ended up, but that bus was just getting started on the night lol. But what I do know is that Kevin was the happiest as I’ve seen any groom. He took the mic, announced it to the world, and Kelly was beaming. It makes you smile all the way home. To Sarah, Kate, great to see you guys again! To Claire & David, see you in June 2011! To Liz & Jay – call me ;) – To Kevin and Kelly, its your world! Cheers!
